Kong Red Coleus

Kong red coleus is a beautiful plant with red to burgundy and shocking color in middle of the leaf while the edges are green. I totally fall in love at first sight of it. Plant them on the entrance or sidewalks, near fountain of your garden and it will give an awesome look to it. It is a perennial plant and due to which it is greatly favored to be included in the year round list of plants to be present in your garden. As we know most of our favorite flowering plants are seasonal and we can't have the right color to make our garden lively. But having kong red coleus will bring your garden to life.

Now having it is one thing and taking care of it is another. So they are shade loving plants but can also grow outdoors. They are propagated from cutting and can also be grown from seeds. while potting them they would require a lot of sun and wind to grow a good root system. it should be planted in a good quality soil. planting them directly on the soil is better option then potting them as they will develop larger root system and plant will grow faster and the whole work will pay off quickly. After potting your Coleus, place them outdoors everyday for 3-4 hours in full or partial shade in a wind-sheltered location. Gradually increase the time outdoors every day, and by the end of the first week you should be able to gradually begin to acclimate them to their permanent location (if it differs from where they have been previously held).

They are tender plants so cannot tolerate temperature extremes. Very hot and very cold temperature are unfavorable for the plant so special care is required.

Coleus is found in tropical parts of the world where it grows in highly shaded or drappled shade area. They are not mushrooms so they need proper light to develop right amount of pigments in them. The deeper the shade the more washed out the color would be. Deep shade may also cause contorted shape of leaves towards light and the damp soil may cause disease.

Like most houseplants Coleus should be watered with care too much will make it soggy but they don't want to be too dry either.
